尊敬的各位老師，親愛的同學(xué)們：

大家下午好！

在今天這個激動人心的日子里，你們即將取得一項對你們未來職業(yè)生涯非常重要的成就——北京大學(xué)的研究生學(xué)位。我在這里首先對你們表達由衷的祝賀！

今天我希望與你們分享三個話題：

第一，我想談?wù)勀銈冊诒贝髤R豐學(xué)到的寶貴知識，不應(yīng)該只是專業(yè)研究方法，而更應(yīng)該是對人生的思考與看法。

第二，我想談?wù)勥@些知識對你們未來的職業(yè)發(fā)展會有怎樣深遠的意義。

第三，我想談?wù)?，在事業(yè)成功的同時，我們還要有一個重要品質(zhì)，那就是我們要對身邊的人產(chǎn)生積極而深遠的影響。

第一個話題，你們在北大匯豐學(xué)到了什么呢？是資本資產(chǎn)定價、市場細分，還是我所講的管理創(chuàng)新？其實這些都不是。你們學(xué)到最重要的，不應(yīng)該只是專業(yè)知識，而是創(chuàng)造性思維和解決問題的能力。我們不可能教會你們在30年后依然適用的概念和方法，因為沒人知道30年后的世界會變成什么樣。就像我今天做的事情，是我當(dāng)時畢業(yè)時根本無法想象的，而且說實話，你們現(xiàn)在面臨的不確定性，比我年輕時更高。30年后，如果全球變暖導(dǎo)致海平面上升，很多國家的沿海城市可能會被淹沒。如果貿(mào)易脫鉤真的發(fā)生，那么隨著全球市場的調(diào)整，它將導(dǎo)致經(jīng)濟轉(zhuǎn)型，帶來巨大的挑戰(zhàn)和機遇。所以，你們在北大匯豐學(xué)到的應(yīng)該是，不論世界給了你們什么難題，你們都能學(xué)會去理解它、解決它、或者至少能夠應(yīng)對它。我希望，作為精英，你們的智慧和技能都足以應(yīng)對這些難題。

第二件事，如果你們愿意將解決問題的能力視為自己的“核心競爭力”，那么，這也會影響到你們?nèi)绾慰创约旱穆殬I(yè)生涯與規(guī)劃。我知道，目前的經(jīng)濟形勢和職業(yè)前景，并不像疫情前那么樂觀。雖然你們很多人在事業(yè)上已經(jīng)很成功了，但還有很多人在為找份好工作而發(fā)愁，也有不少人在考慮進入國企或政府工作。這些都是很好的選擇，但是，如果你們選擇這條路，只是為了圖個“安穩(wěn)”，那么這可能會限制自己的未來發(fā)展。請記住，我們不是為了找一個“鐵飯碗”而工作，或者說，一輩子只做一份工作其實挺無聊的。我認(rèn)識的每個擁有精彩輝煌職業(yè)生涯的人，都曾經(jīng)歷過一次或者多次“轉(zhuǎn)型”，其中很多都是計劃外的大變動。比如，我自己就經(jīng)歷過三次。還有我認(rèn)識的香港一家大銀行董事長，最初是一名貨機飛行員，后來進入銀行業(yè)，很久之后才成為了董事長。另一個例子，最近我結(jié)識了一家房地產(chǎn)、娛樂和醫(yī)療綜合集團的創(chuàng)始人兼董事長，他告訴我他最初成立的是一家造船公司，后來轉(zhuǎn)向房地產(chǎn)業(yè)，之后又進入娛樂業(yè)。他富有創(chuàng)造力，結(jié)合了不同領(lǐng)域的想法。出于機會主義，他一開始選擇了造船公司作為起點，后面一直持續(xù)發(fā)掘更好的機會，最終在目前的領(lǐng)域取得了巨大成功。

這樣想會讓你們找個“好”工作這件事情變得沒那么可怕。你們可以從能夠找到的任一份工作開始，努力工作，持續(xù)學(xué)習(xí)。學(xué)習(xí)它的技術(shù)，學(xué)習(xí)它的市場，向你們的同事和領(lǐng)導(dǎo)學(xué)習(xí)。你們不僅僅能從優(yōu)秀的人身上學(xué)到東西，同時也能從你們不想自己成為的人身上學(xué)到東西。試著了解你們喜歡的是什么，擅長的是什么，然后找尋更加適合自己的機會。你們可能會發(fā)現(xiàn)其他更吸引自己的方向，甚至可能不得不多次轉(zhuǎn)型，但通過這種方式，你們一定會實現(xiàn)成長。盡管這件事剛開始聽上去不那么安穩(wěn)，甚至有些嚇人，但比起現(xiàn)在就想找到一份完美的工作，這很可能是一種更有把握性、并且讓你們在職業(yè)生涯中更快樂的方式。

我剛才已經(jīng)和你們談到了解決問題的能力，也談到了我們當(dāng)下面臨的挑戰(zhàn)，需要運用專業(yè)能力、通力合作才能做到。那么現(xiàn)在我想和你們聊聊第三個話題，就是那些既成功又受人尊敬的人，都是能對身邊人產(chǎn)生積極影響的人。即使你們才華橫溢，也需要依托于周圍的社會不斷成長。

做個好人，并不是要你們一味地友善和寬容，你們同時也需要學(xué)會站起來為自己爭取，否則會被別人輕視和欺負。但請一定不要忘記，這個世界不僅僅只有你們自己，其他人也應(yīng)該得到尊重，也值得擁有更好的生活，所以不要因為你們個人的成功而忽略了別人的需求。

最后，我想跟你們說的是，你們一定要相信自己?，F(xiàn)在的你們可能看不清楚未來的方向，但要相信“車到山前必有路”，只要你們想，你們就一定能找到！我相信你們有足夠的潛力能抓住機會并獲得成功，但請記得，與此同時也要和身邊的人分享你們的成功。

Dear teachers and students, good afternoon! On this exciting day today, you are about to achieve an achievement that is very important for your future career - a graduate degree from Peking University. First of all, I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to you!

Today I want to share three topics with you:

First, I want to talk about the valuable knowledge you have learned at PHBS, not only professional research methods, but also thoughts and views on life.

Second, I want to talk about how this knowledge will have far-reaching significance for your future career development.

Third, I want to talk about that while having a successful career, we must also have an important quality, that is, we must have a positive and far-reaching impact on the people around us.

The first topic is, what did you learn at PHBS? Is it capital asset pricing, market segmentation, or what I call management innovation? Actually it is none of these. The most important thing you learned should not be professional knowledge, but creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. It is impossible for us to teach you concepts and methods that will still be applicable in 30 years, because no one knows what the world will look like in 30 years. Just like what I am doing today, I couldn’t have imagined it when I graduated, and to be honest, the uncertainty you are facing now is higher now than it was when I was young. In 30 years, if global warming causes sea levels to rise, coastal cities in many countries may be submerged. If trade decoupling does occur, it will lead to economic transformation and bring huge challenges and opportunities as global markets adjust. Therefore, what you should learn at PHBS is that no matter what problems the world throws at you, you can learn to understand it, solve it, or at least be able to deal with it. I hope that as elites, you have enough wisdom and skills to deal with these issues.

The second thing is, if you are willing to regard your problem-solving ability as your "core competitiveness", then this will affect how you view your career and planning. I know that the current economic situation and career prospects are not as optimistic as they were before the epidemic. Although many of you are already very successful in your career, there are still many who are worried about finding a good job, and some are considering working in state-owned enterprises or the government. These are all good choices, but if you choose this path just for "stability", it may limit your future development. Please don’t forget that we don’t work to find an “iron rice bowl”. In other words, it’s actually quite boring to only do one job for a lifetime. Everyone I know who has had a great career has gone through one or more "pivots", or unplanned major changes. For example, I have experienced it three times myself. There is also the Chairman of a large bank in Hong Kong whom I know. He was originally a cargo plane pilot, then entered the banking industry, and much later became chairman. As another example, I recently met the founder and chairman of a comprehensive real estate, entertainment and medical group. He told me that he originally founded a shipbuilding company, then moved into real estate and then entertainment. He is creative, combining ideas from different fields.Out of opportunism, he initially chose a shipbuilding company as his starting point, but continued to explore better opportunities and eventually achieved great success in his current field.

Thinking this way will make finding a "good" job less scary. You can start in any job you can find, work hard, and keep learning. Learn its technology, learn its market, and learn from your colleagues and leaders. Not only do you learn from great people, you also learn from people you don’t want to be. Try to understand what you like and are good at, and then look for opportunities that are more suitable for you. You may find other directions that appeal to you more, and you may even have to pivot multiple times, but in this way, you will definitely grow. Although this may sound a bit unsettling and even scary at first, it is likely to be more certain and put you in a better position in your career, and also happier, than trying to find the perfect job right now.

I have just talked to you about problem-solving capabilities and the challenges we face today, which require the use of professional capabilities and joint efforts. So now I want to talk to you about the third topic, which is that people who are both successful and respected are people who can have a positive impact on the people around them. Even if you are talented, you still need to rely on the society around you to continue to grow.

Being a good person does not require you to be friendly and tolerant blindly. You also need to learn to stand up and fight for yourself, otherwise you will be despised and bullied by others. But please don’t forget that this world is not just for you, others should also be respected and deserve a better life, so don’t ignore the needs of others because of your personal success.

Finally, what I want to tell you is that you should believe in yourself. You may not be able to see the future direction clearly now, but you can definitely believe that "there must be a road before the car reaches the mountain." As long as you think about it, you will definitely find it! I believe you have enough potential to seize the opportunity and succeed, but please remember to share your success with those around you.
